That's Not Quite Correct

There is an old joke in TV news that you should never let facts get into the way of a good story.

Nexstar announced that they have hired Angel Covarrubias as the new News Director at the little-watched KIAH in Houston.

Covarrubias was excited about his next move and posted about it on his social media.

While it Is great that he’s happy for his new job and we are happy for him, we feel the need to clear up something he posted.

Covarrubias says in his post that he will be “the first Hispanic to lead an English affiliate in the market.”

He will not be the first, and he won’t even be the second.

Richard Longoria was the News Director at KTRK for years. Also, Sally Ramirez lead KHOU for four years and left in 2020.

Covarrubias claim of being the first Hispanic is not accurate. Hopefully, the newscasts his station puts on will pay a bit more attention to the facts.
