She's Leaving at the End Of the Book (Not This Book)

TV stations love to use any gimmicks they can to get people to tune in and this especially happens during ratings.

Scripps-owned WPTV took this to the next level when longtime Anchor Kelly Dunn had a big announcement to make.

Of course, you can guess what the big news was, but this one has a twist.

As you know, it is very rare for a longtime Anchor to ever announce outside a ratings period that they are retiring.

Dunn did in fact tell viewers that she is leaving and she will so so during the rating book, but not this one.

Dunn is going to stick around until the May rating book.

After 36 years and only working at one station, Dunn is leaving WPTV in May.

"Thirty-six years is a long time to be on television," Dunn said. "I have had a wonderful career and I'm grateful, but I have worked straight through since I graduated from college. I want to spend more time with my husband, grown children and my wonderful extended family. My husband and I have always dreamed of retiring to the mountains of western North Carolina. We worked hard to get to this point in our lives and we are ready to enjoy beautiful views, a change of seasons and step back from busy lives."

After Dunn announced that she was leaving, the station wrote on its website, “Not to worry, as WPTV's loyal viewers and her colleagues will have plenty of opportunities to say goodbye to her between now and May.”

Yep, there will be plenty of time, but we get the retirement announcement in the Feb book and the long goodbye in the May book.

A double goose of the ratings in two books.

Well played….
