Big Changes at NewsHour
/On January 2, 2023, PBS' evening news program, the NewsHour, will enter a new era with the appointment of Geoff Bennett and Amna Nawaz as co-anchors. Bennett, the show's chief Washington correspondent and weekend anchor, and Nawaz, the chief correspondent and substitute anchor, will take over from Judy Woodruff, who has anchored the program for the past 10 years, including a three-year stint as co-anchor with the late Gwen Ifill.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Bennett and Nawaz, along with NewsHour senior executive producer Sara Just, discussed their plans to modernize the long-running public news program for a new generation. With over 40 years of television history, the NewsHour team believes that their legacy can be an advantage in a digital media landscape.
Just stated that the NewsHour has always prided itself on providing in-depth, unbiased coverage of the day's events, and that will not change under Bennett and Nawaz's leadership. However, the team is also looking to incorporate more interactive and multimedia elements into the program to engage younger audiences.
Bennett and Nawaz are excited to bring their unique perspectives and experiences to the anchor desk and to continue the NewsHour's tradition of excellence in journalism. They hope to inspire the next generation of reporters and to be a trusted source of information for viewers.
As Woodruff steps down, the NewsHour team looks forward to the new era of leadership and innovation under Bennett and Nawaz.
