Pink Slips Fly at CNN

FTVLive told you yesterday that CNN had started laying off staff as the cable news network looks to save money.

The layoffs started late yesterday morning and are expected to go through at least today and might spill into Friday.

Word is that CNN boss Chris Licht wants to be done with all cuts by the end of the week.

Some CNN staff were informed via email that they were requested to zoom with executives including an HR person.

Just before starting to swing the ax, Licht sent this email out to the staff:

To my CNN colleagues,

Our people are the heart and soul of this organization. It is incredibly hard to say goodbye to any one member of the CNN team, much less many. I recently described this process as a gut punch, because I know that is how it feels for all of us.

Today we will notify a limited number of individuals, largely some of our paid contributors, as part of a recalibrated reporting strategy. Tomorrow, we will notify impacted employees, and tomorrow afternoon I will follow up with more details on these changes.
