Isn't This Backwards?

I always thought the way it worked was, you entered beauty pageants and piggybacked that into a job in TV news.

But, it appears that WIVB Traffic Reporter Chelsea Lovell is doing it the other way.

Lovell has been working for the Nexstar station, but has now been crowned Miss Buffalo and will rep the city in the Miss New York Pageant.
