Longtime KCCI (Des Moines) Anchor Steve Karlin announced this week that he will be retiring.

He is not leaving at the end of the November book, he’s not even leaving at the end of the year.

Karlin announced that he will retire in March of 2023.

Yep, 5 months from now, he says that he Is done.

So, why did the 3 decades plus KCCI Anchor tell viewers about a retirement that isn’t even happening this year?

Because Anchors feel the need to announce their retirement during a rating book. Sure, he could have waited for the Feb book to make the announcement. But, you can bet in February, they will be taking the entire month to do look back stories on Karlin’s career.

Also, they need time to design the retirement cake that will be posted everywhere.

Look for Karlin to also tell us how the station wanted him to stay, made a great offer, but it is time to go and it is 100% his decision.
