Twitter Could Make You Pay For That Checkmark
/A few years ago, a person at Twitter reached out to me and said that if I followed more people on my account, I would then qualify for a checkmark next to my name.
This was like 3 or 4 years ago and I was only following 75 people on my Twitter account.
Well, fast forward to today and now I follow a total of 74 people on Twitter.
I couldn’t care less if I have a checkmark or not, it was never a big deal to me and I wasn’t going to follow more people, just so I could get it.
I don’t care.
I post links on Twitter and that’s about it. I don’t try and grow my Twitter and I really don’t care if people follow me or not. I put my time and effort into FTVLive, a website that I own and control. I have no control over Twitter and I’m not going to put much effort into that platform.
That being said, I use Twitter more than any other social media. I don’t post on Facebook, or TikTok and the only post I make to Instagram our pictures that I like to post to document something I did. I post them for me and not anyone else and I enjoy scrolling back on my IG just to see what I did, or where I was at a specific time. It’s sort of like my personal photo journal.
As for Elon Musk owning Twitter? I say good for him. he can afford it so he bought it.
I’m not one of those that says, just because Musk bought it, I’m leaving the platform. I don’t spend enough time on Twitter to care either way.
If it turns into a place that is just spewing hate, or attacking people for their political beliefs on either side, I will likely just stop using Twitter. I’m not going to delete my account, I’ll just stop logging on.
I think Elon Musk is smart enough to know that he will have to moderate Twitter in order for it to survive. But, if it becomes a cesspool, I’ll just quit using it and my life won’;t change in the least.
I think most of you have seen the story in which Musk is floating the ideas that the people with the checkmarks would have to pay about $20 a month to keep them.
It certainly makes me happy that I never got that checkmark that they messaged me about. I can assure you, I would not be paying $20 bucks a month, that’s for damn sure.
It will be interesting if Twitter puts this pay system into place and if they do, will your station pay for all of the staff that have checkmarks, or will they want you to pay?
Stay tuned….
