Great job. I read your post on cable news and January 6th - you hit the nail squarely on the head I could not agree with you more. It frankly disgust me the amount of opinion on full display throughout the entire day on the cable news channels and unfortunately the networks aren’t much better.
It’s sad.
Keep fighting the good fight,

I appreciate what you wrote about cable news. I long for the days of straight news and not the endless punditry. I tend to watch a lot more foreign news now. But I think it’s more complicated than that.
This day really brings me down, and as someone who grew up dreaming of covering politics- I am just sickened by it all now.
But consider this- there are so many other factors. Social media being the worst. Tactical misinformation campaigns by individuals.
I don’t fault news outlets for covering Jan 6 and giving it the weight it absolutely deserves. As a local journalist I don’t have to cover these issues day to day the way others do, but misinformation and politicization is seeping into everything like a poison and I know it weights heavily on me and many of my colleagues.
Thanks for letting me vent and for doing what you do.

Hi Scott,
Just a small note that I think could be important to add to the dark live shot conversation.
Mr. Shortt could have probably used some backup from the control room. Looking at the screenshot, it’s 5:02. Why not give him 3 more minutes to set up the light? It’s breaking news, right? It will presumably still be breaking at 5:05. Producers, help your talent out. Let him know you’ll go when he’s ready and that that’s okay. Especially when it looks like they are MSJing their own live shot.
