Sacked in San Francisco

FTVLive FIRST told you that KPIX News Director Mark Meerman was exited from the CBS O&O, giving him the distinction of being the first ND bounced in 2022.

A memo went out to the staff and was obtained by FTVLive, informing them that Neerman was gone “effective immediately.”

As to why? The station, nor CBS is saying.

Sources tell FTVLive that a number of employees raised concerns to HR, especially complaints about crew safety.

San Francisco has become a dangerous market for news crews trying to cover stories in the public. Crews have been threaten, robbed of their gear and had equipment vandalized. In one case, a security guard assigned to protect a news crew was shot and killed.

KPIX insiders claim that, according to them, Neerman was not sensitive what crews were dealing with in the field.

Here is the memo sent to the staff:
