Reporter Hit By A Car While Reporting Live
/I know that no matter what I’m going to say here, it will not stop TV managers from sending MMJ’s out to do their own single-person live shot.
Let’s be honest, it is more about saving money than it is about crew safety these days.
Here is another example of why stations should scrap single-person live shots.
Tori Yorgey from WSAZ (Charleston, WV) was sent out ALONE to cover a water main break and cold weather/conditions.
Dark, no safety vest, and standing on the side of a road.
Just as she was starting off her live hit, she got…well….hit.
A car hit Yorgey and I will say, she is one of the most positive people I have ever seen after getting hit by a car.

As someone that has been out on thousands of live shots, unlike many News Directors and GM’s, I can assure you that this happened slow enough, that if Yorgey had a Photographer with her, this doesn’t happen.
The Photog would have had enough time to alert Yorgey and stop the accident from happening.
Thankfully, Yorgey wasn’t hurt very badly.
But, this still should serve as a wake-up call to TV stations management when it comes to solo live shots.
But, you and I both know that it won’t change a thing.
Also, can I add that maybe we can get the anchor in the studio a monitor, so he can see exactly what is happening?
Just saying…
