Life After TV News
/Former WFTV (Orlando) Anchor Jamie Holmes left the business after 25 years, but he isn’t retired.
Holmes has written a scary collection of books aimed at showing children the real monsters of the modern world. SCARE SQUAD is a 22-volume series featuring five intrepid kids who battle ‘creatures of the night’ that mimic real-life threats.
Screentime. Social media influencers. Bullying. School violence.
These are just some of the ‘monsters’ creating a new generation of children who are ‘growing up too quickly.’
Holmes worked with his 11-year-old daughter, and together they wrote the first book, Clown Town, which deals with bullying. The books are geared for children ages 8-12.
“Having an 11-year-old by my side helped me to navigate the problems facing today’s kids,” Holmes said.
While working in TV news, Holmes decided to become a full-time author after publishing ‘The Last Disciple’ trilogy, which ranked Number 1 on Amazon.
“If journalism has taught me anything, it’s ‘here today, gone tomorrow,” says Holmes. “Life is short. If I didn’t pursue my dream to become a writer now, then when?”
Holmes says The Great Resignation/Reinvention was the perfect chance to stop asking permission from a boss and to start working for himself.
“Writing allowed me to spend more time with my daughter, who said she’d only write with me if she got half the profits. So, yeah, she’s like my agent.”
“We’re now working on the next books in the series. I thought we’d run out of monsters by now, but the world keeps churning them out.”
Holmes says he will be back on screens in June but isn’t saying where.
“Here’s what I can say. Be brave. Reinvent yourself. Spend more time with the ones you love. Because here today, gone tomorrow.”
