I Think a Lot of Us Got so Comfortable

KSAZ (Pheonix) Anchor Marc Martinez has contracted COVID and he says that it is a bit of a wake up call.

Martinez, who said he is double-vaccinated and boosted, is working from home as he quarantines.

As to how he got COVID?

He thinks he knows.

Martinez suspects that he was exposed during a Saturday trip to the small gym where he works out.

“I think a lot of us got so comfortable just getting back to our normal routines, not wearing masks or going to the grocery store or going to the gym,” he said. “I’m vaccinated and boosted. I thought, like, you know, I’m good to go. And so it was kind of a wake-up call for me.”

But even before he tested positive, Martinez said he already was reverting to previous, safer pandemic behavior.

“I even started doing this before this happened, just seeing the numbers every day and noticing that more and more people are back masking up,” he said. “I thought yeah, I’ve got to practice what we preach here.”

“Even though I’ve got this now, I think I’m going to go back to wearing a mask and being better about social distancing than I was,” Martinez said, “because I think like a lot of us I kind of got lulled back into that sense of we’re through it. … I think now is just not a time to let our guards down, obviously.”

Good advice.
