Anchor: I Was Let Go Over My Mask Stance

An Anchor working for a Meredith station says that he went to work yesterday, not knowing that bit would be his last day at the station.

Frank Turner anchored Noon newscast at Meredith's WNEM (Flint) and then was told his services were no longer needed.

He posted this to his social media:

But, WNEM sees it a bit differently.

WNEM said employees are required to wear masks in commons areas where they can't socially distance, but they claim that in the studio, on-air talent is spaced 6-feet apart, so masks do not need to be worn.

"WNEM did not terminate Frank Turner," the station said in a statement. "WNEM has specific COVID-19 protocols in place developed in consultation with medical experts. We wish Mr. Turner the best of luck in his future endeavors."

FTVLive told you that Meredith has also told employees that the company will require COVID-19 vaccines starting Sept. 17.

Tuner’s bio is now gone from the station’s website, but FTVLive did grab a screenshot of it before that happened.

So, Turner claims he was “let go” and the station claims that they did not “terminate Frank Turner.”

It’s a bit confusing, but it sounds like if you tune into the WNEM newscasts later today, Frank Turner will not be anchoring.
