CAT 4 Incoming Ida

Hurricane Ida intensified over warm Gulf of Mexico waters on Saturday and today is expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast.

Local news crews have started working longer shifts to try and prepare to help keep viewers safe.

CNN media critic Brian Stelter tweeted out that the storm is bigger enough that the 24 hour cable news channel is actually starting to cover news.

I’m sorry, isn’t covering the news around the clock the whole purpose behind the launch of CNN?

You know that CNN’s Jim Acosta would use this opportunity to somehow make Ida about Jim Acosta, and he didn’t disappoint.

This is a powerful storm and viewers need the best information they can get to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. This is not the time for hype and sensationalism, this is the real deal.

Also, standing out in the middle of the wind and the rain has been so over-played that it no longer has any impact. It’s not going to freshen up your demo-reel, or make you stand out.

Cover the story, cover the people impacted!

You will have plenty of other times in the future to make the story about you. This is a dangerous storm and it needs real Journalist on the story.

If you live in the impacted area, turn to local news as they are the ones that will have the best information.

If you live outside the area and are just looking to watch clowns screaming “Look at ME!” then you can turn on Jim Cantore on the Weather Channel, or tune into cable news.

Don’t forget, 16 years ago, Jim Acosta was there.

Stay safe, focus on the people and the story!
