Disney: Staffers Have 60 Days to Get the Vaccine
/Disney, the owner of ABC and local stations across the country came out of Friday and said that it is requiring all salaried and non-union hourly employees in the U.S. to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus by the end of September.
Employees who are still working from home will be required to provide verification of vaccination prior to returning to any Disney site or office, which includes TV stations.
“Vaccines are the best tool we all have to help control this global pandemic and protect our employees,” the company said in a statement.
Disney said it has begun conversations with the unions that represent its other employees about making the vaccine a part of its employment requirements.
Some will claim this is stepping over the line when an employer is requiring the employees to be vaccinated.
Others will say that other companies, including the large media companies, should do the same.
The bottom line, this is a global pandemic that has lasted well over a year. It has killed millions and impacted so many of our lives. Somehow, the vaccine wasn’t about health, it was about politics.
You can blame politicians and cable news for much of that.
Some will say that Disney has crossed the line in requiring its staff to be vaccinated. They will say “I should be able to choose if I want to get the vaccine or not.”
You can choose, but if you choose not to, Disney can choose whether to keep you on its payroll.
The problem lies in the fact that if you choose not to get the vaccine, you putting your health and maybe your life in danger. And that’s fine, your life and health are yours to control.
The issue here, if you choose not to get the shot, you are putting the health and lives of others, including your co-workers in danger.
You want to kill yourself? That’s up to you. But, you should not be allowed to put other people’s lives and health in jeopardy.
So, before you claim that Disney is not giving you a choice, let me stop you right there. Disney is not telling you what to do? They are just saying, if you don’t get the vaccine, you can’t work for their company.
As much as FTVLive calls out media companies for their treatment of employees, this time we stand with Disney and feel that they are making the right call for the health of all its employees.
That is our opinion and only our opinion. Your’s may or may not be different.
Lastly, go get the damn shot!
