Nexstar’s WIVB says they are planning to add a lot more news on its sister station WLNO.

The Buffalo News writes that they plan on adding 90 more minutes of newscasts on weekdays on WNLO starting in August or September.

Brien Kennedy, the general manager of the Nexstar stations WIVB and WNLO, confirmed the news expansion plans.

WNLO, which also is referred to as CW 23 because of its affiliation with the CW network, will carry an additional morning hour on weekdays, which means local news will be carried from 7 to 10 a.m. on the channel after WIVB's 4:30 to 7 a.m. news ends.

The expansion of news at WNLO reflects the strength of the early morning and 10 p.m. newscasts on a station that gets low ratings when news isn’t carried.

No word on how many more people the Nexstar station will hire for the expansion, but it is likely it will only be one or two people.

In other words, more work for those already at the station.
