Headed Downtown
/Griffin Communications announced plans Monday to move its station KWTV to downtown Oklahoma City.
The company is moving to the building that houses The Oklahoman newspaper and other business.
"Downtown is the heart and soul of Oklahoma City," said Griffin Communications CEO David Griffin. "We just think that a television station is better served reflecting our community being in its heart and soul."
They will build a new newsroom and new news set for the Journalists working at the station. They will also be taking some money from Oklahoma City to help pay for the move.
"I think the message that it sends is that we are committed to being here. We are committed to our communities, and we are committed to making sure our community grows and thrives. We're committed to our employees, too. We want to create a fantastic workplace for them," Griffin said.
KWTV hopes to be in the new building by this time next year.
