Meltdown at CBS O&O

CBS O&O KYW (Philly) had a technical meltdown of epic proportions this weekend. An insider at the station tells FTVLive the newscast went south when, “automation underwent an automatic windows update, crashing and paralyzing all control three minutes into the 11 PM newscast, forcing staff to try and regain manual control. The staff responded as a team, admirably. Management - typically tone-deaf and MIA in the day after this broadcast disaster.”

We’ll let one Reddit user explain what they saw followed by the video:

What in the hell was going on at CBS3 tonight?

About five minutes in, anchor Joe Holden intros a story about a murdered rapper from Wilmington. But the video never runs, and eventually they cut to commercial.

For over 7 1/2 minutes.

When they finally come back, Holden again throws to the video. This time it runs. Without sound. For a full minute, but you can hear the news crew trying to figure out what to do next. After a minute or so, they cut the video and go to weather with Lauren Casey, who has a stunned WTF look on her face for all of about 15 seconds before recovering nicely and doing a full weather forecast.

Then back to Holden, who says something about losing to technology, thanks everybody for their patience, then abruptly ends the newscast 10 minutes early.

I've been watching Philly news for decades and I've never seen anything like this.
