Cox Stations Hacked

If you logged onto a Cox TV station website yesterday, you might have noticed that the news that was posted was at least a day old.

If you tuned into a newscast, you might have seen a filler national newscast or no newscasts at all.

When I tuned into WFTV’s (Orlando) newscast, I saw this:

FTVLive told you that the Cox/Apollo stations had been hacked in a ransomware attack that brought the TV stations to a basic standstill.

Employees that were working on station computers or laptops were told to turn them off immediately until further notice.

They were also told not to access their Cox email accounts.

Some employees at Cox stations posted tweets about the wide outages but were told by bosses to delete the tweets informing viewers.

Checking this morning and it appears that most of the Cox stations’ websites have been updated and are back in operation.

This type of attack is becoming more common and we doubt that Cox will be the last station group to undergo such an attack.
