Yesterday, FTVLive told you that NBC Boston Meteorologist Chris Gloninger was leaving the NBC O&O.

Gloninger is resurfacing a long way from Bean Town.

KCCI in Des Moines announced that Gloninger will lead KCCI Storm Team 8 as the station’s new Chief Met.

“We are thrilled to welcome someone of Chris’ depth who also has Midwest experience,” said KCCI President and General Manager Brian Sather. “His leadership of our weather team will ensure that viewers will have the accuracy they expect from Storm Team 8.”

“Chris is not just a weather expert, he has a deep understanding of how weather impacts all of our lives,” said KCCI News Director Allison Smith. “His knowledge and passion for weather are evident. Chris will deliver life-saving information when storms threaten central Iowa. Just as important, he will help Iowans prepare for each day, whether that means grabbing an umbrella, or a snow shovel, or packing a picnic lunch to enjoy in the sun.”

“I am honored to continue the long legacy of weather leadership at KCCI. Viewers count on Storm Team 8 for weather information they can plan their lives around. My goal is to make sure that the information we share is accurate and easy to understand. I’m also happy to be back closer to family and friends in the Midwest,” said Gloninger.

He will make his on-air debut as Chief Meteorologist on July 6.
