Let’s see what you’re talking about….

The picture of a captured Black man surrounded by all-White police officers like he's first prize at a turkey shoot is not surprising to those of us who've monitored and kept up with racial diversity, both in current society and the media which covers it. I have followed this station's situation for many, many years. It was required textbook reading when I was first getting into television exactly 50 years ago..... the very year that WLBT lost its FCC TV station broadcast license.

Over the years since June of 1971, while WLBT-TV has changed ownership several times, many articles have been written and discussions started about the first FCC television station license denial in U.S. history and the reasons behind it. I urge you and my fellow readers to learn the history of this station.
I shutter to think of the police pictures possibly taken that were not posted, but the mere fact that WLBT posted this picture in the first place and the callous reference to it, shows that the station's current thinking might still be mired in 1971.

Perhaps another community visit to the station's next license renewal is in order.

Stations who've already had one glass house destroyed by stones, should not be out there throwing rocks.

You know what really annoys the shit out of me? The way some stations write their anchor tosses these days. Take KPRC's 6 pm tonight for some examples:

Anchor: "And Brandon, police and paramedics say that shooting victim may be alive today because of that neighbor's quick actions." Reporter: "Yeah, you're right about that."

Anchor: "And Courtney, a lot of people are surprised that no one was arrested in this case." Reporter: "Yeah, no arrests."

I could go on and on, but you get the idea. The anchors are left on cam bobbing their head during these drawn out intros and then 95% of the time, the reporter responds with something like "that's right" because the drawn out intro basically took their intro away from them. What happened to just "XXX is live at" or "XXX is live with more".

I've voiced my concerns to the KPRC news director but no response. They're not the only ones doing it, plenty of others are too. They just happen to be one of my favorite stations.

Thanks!
