Chicago Mayor to Only Do Interviews with Journalists of Color

In marking her two years in office, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is talking to media outlets about how her first two years have gone.

But, it’s who she is talking to that is making news.

In an effort to highlight the lack of diversity in the media, Lightfoot said she would be 'exclusively providing one-on-one interviews with journalists of color.'

Fox News host Tucker Carlson likened the Chicago Mayor to a Nazi for doing so.

One Journalist of color says that he was granted and interview with the Mayor, but canceled.

Clearly, as FTVLive has highlighted a number of times, there are news outlets that have very little diversity when it comes to their on-air staff.

I’m not sure that when it comes to talking to only Journalists of color, is the correct way. Maybe there is a media outlet that does have a diverse staff in Chicago, but the Political Reporter is white. Shouldn’t that person be the one to conduct the interview?

That being said, there is a lack of diversity in the media and Mayor Lightfoot is in a position where she can shine a light on that issue.

You can decide if she is right or wrong, but I think she has succeeded in getting people to talk about an issue that the media has seemed to ignore for years.
