How Not to Do a Live Shot
/OK, first I want to start this off by saying this is a small market and so you can expect stuff like this to happen.
That being said, watch this live shot from WABG (Greenwood, Mississippi) and then we’ll give you our thoughts on what we just saw?
OK, first off, I know that the consultants want you to do “active live shots” but why the hell are you starting the shot inside the car? Then you get out and the guy you are interviewing, hands you YOUR mic. Very odd.
Second, you are doing a story on a group that is circulating a petition. As a Reporter, your job Is to report the story and remain neutral. Yet this Reporter grabs the clipboard and then SIGNS the petition.
Also, where is the other side of the story? Did the Reporter get a comment from the water company?
I won’t even get into the masks and social distancing and passing back and forth of items.
Hopefully, someone sits down with this young Reporter and explains to him the problems with this live report. Thankfully, this is what small markets are for and we think he will learn from this.
