The Masters is Not Run by the PGA Tour
/There seems to be some confusion amongst TV news people that are obviously not golfers.
I have seen a number of social media posts in which TV news people are saying that the PGA Tour should pull The Masters golf tournament out of the State of Georgia to protest the state’s new election laws.
Major League Baseball has moved the All-Star game from Georgia and many think the PGA Tour should do the same with The Masters.
There is one problem with that.
The PGA Tour does not run or have control over The Masters. The tournament is run and owned by the Augusta National Golf Club, which is located in August, Georgia.
Most of the Professional golf tournaments you see on TV are owned and operated by the PGA Tour. But that is not the case with any of the 4 majors of golf.
Yesterday, Fox News Reporter Peter Doocy asked President Biden if The Masters should be move out of Georgia? Again, The Masters is run and owned by the members of Augusta National Golf Club. Unless you can figure out a way to move and entire golf course to another state, The Masters is staying in Georgia.
Now, certainly the players themselves could boycott the tournament. But, it is likely that since we are talking about a potential winning income of millions of dollars and the fact that it is a major, that is likely not going to happen.
But, when you call on the PGA Tour to move The Masters, you are calling on a organization to do something that they have no control over.
Now you know.
