Today on the Inbox we want to highlight just a single email to FTVLive and then give our response.

This is the email:

I enjoy your website and visit it a few times a week.

I see you are concerned with the "lack of diversity" in the news business. Are you also concerned with the lack of diversity in the NBA, NFL, and rap music?

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Flynt Myrick

Ok Flynt, here are my thoughts on the lack of diversity in the NBA, NFL, and in Rap music.

I completely agree with you, there is a huge lack of diversity in those areas. Looking at the NFL and the NBA and it is clear that there is a diversity issue. By my count, in the NBA and the NFL, there is only one single Black owner and that is Michael Jordan, who owns the Charlotte Hornets.

One!

There is also lacking when it comes to Black general managers and coaches in both sports. So, yes both the NBA and the NFL have a diversity problem and it needs to be addressed.

As for Rap Music, again many of the record labels are own by white-run companies or individuals. Those companies are making millions on the work of the artist. Thankfully, we have Death Row Records which was founded in 1992 by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight and that helps, but there is still more work to be done.

So Flynt, I fully agree with you that the NBA, NFL, and Rap Music have a diversity issue. But, hopefully, one day we will see more people of color in the front offices, in ownership roles, and running operations.

It hasn’t happened yet, but I really hope that I live to see that day.

Thanks for the email.
