Signed Off in Richmond
/Richmond, Virginia sources tell FTVLive that about a week ago, they noticed that a demo reel for WWBT Meteorologist Jim Duncan was started to circulate.
What made it odd is that Duncan had been the station’s weather anchor for the past 40 years.
Then, yesterday morning it was announced that Duncan was leaving the station and last night was his final forecast at the station.
That was one very quick goodbye.
During the 6 PM newscast, which was Duncan’s final show, the station posted this tweet saying that Duncan was leaving, but was not calling it a retirement.
We’re not sure what is going on, but it does seem odd that after 40 years at the station, Duncan did not leave at the end of a ratings book. Also, it was announced he was leaving and then he did so the same day.
This is a very rare thing to happen in TV news and maybe Duncan just wanted to go out with little fanfare and move on. Or, maybe there is more to the story that we will likely never know.
"Jim will always be a member of the NBC12 family," said WWBT station's general manager, Kym Grinnage. "He has a life membership."
Anyway, the guy put in 40 years and he certainly deserves to leave on his terms.
But, it all just seems a bit different than how we usually see these things play out.
Just saying….
