The Mess That is News Nation

News Nation sounded too good to be true.

For the first time, Nexstar was promising to offer up a cable news channel that would not be about opinion and bias like the others but would give us straight news and let the viewer form their own opinion.

That was the promise that Nexstar sold us and the people that they hired to do the job.

But, many feel that they have been sold a bill of goods and News Nation is just another politically leaning cable news channel.

The person in charge of News Nation is Sean Compton, an ex-radio guy that has almost no news background and brags about being friends with Donald Trump.

In fact, as FTVLive FIRST reported it was Compton that secretly hired former Trump aide and Fox News boss, Bill Shine, to consult News Nation. Shine a hardcore conservative is alleged to help enable former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes in his harassing of women at Fox News.

New York Times Reporter Katie Robertson writes six months after its debut, “NewsNation” has abysmal ratings and disaffected staff members who say it has not lived up to Mr. Compton’s billing. In recent weeks, the news director and managing editor have resigned. Six people at the network, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to reveal internal discussions, said “NewsNation” has increasingly become a venue for right-wing views.

Just a few months after launching, News Nation News Director Sandy Pudar resigned from the network on February 2nd.

The New York Times writes, The next day, FTVLive, a cable industry website, broke the news of Mr. Shine’s involvement in “NewsNation,” further inflaming the staff, according to six people at the show.

A Nexstar spokesman had no comment on the resignations and said that NewsNation had “a commitment to deliver unbiased news to our viewers.”

In speaking to people inside News Nation, many think that Compton looks at himself as the next Roger Ailes and he is more than happy taking NN to the right on the political spectrum.

As one Nexstar insider said to FTVLive, ‘This is not the job I signed up for.”
