NAHJ Request Meeting with Tegna

On Monday, FTVLive reported again on what appears to be Tegna’s ongoing diversity problems at their stations.

We told you how Lori Lizarraga, who worked as a Reporter at Tegna’s KUSA in Denver wrote an op-ed story about her time at the Denver station and highlighted a number of issues she said that she had as a Hispanic Journalist working for Tegna.

Now, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists is stepping in and has asked for a meeting with Tegna officials.

The NAHJ says that they are dismayed by the blatant mistreatment of three Latina journalists at KUSA.

“NAHJ is deeply troubled by the treatment that Lizarraga and her colleagues have described, and we are requesting to meet with TEGNA,” said NAHJ President Nora López.

Sadly these meetings often happen, the company in question promises to do better, writes a check “to help show their support for diversity” and nothing changes.

We have seen this play out over and over again involving different organizations and media companies.

Until we see more people of color in high positions at these media companies, these kinds of problems will likely continue.

FTVLive encourages Tegna to meet with the NAHJ and give the group more than lip service. This time instead of saying that you “will try and do better”, maybe you can actually DO BETTER.

Stay tuned….
