Nexstar is going Espanol when it comes to giving viewers the news.

The company’s WFLA in Tampa announced that starting next week, they will be offering up a new Spanish language newscast of their sister station WTTA.

The 9 PM newscast will be called Noticias Tampa Hoy.

“We are very excited to launch Noticias Tampa Hoy,” said Mark Higgins, Vice President and General Manager of WFLA & WTTA TV, in the release. “Given my Latino background it’s a passion for me to serve the Hispanic community; a community that is tremendously underserved. This newscast will have all the daily news that’s relevant to the Hispanic community throughout the greater Tampa region.”

It is a smart move by Nexstar, given that in markets like Miami, the Spanish stations often bring in higher ratings than their English-speaking counterparts.

The newscast will be anchored by Jennifer Peñate and weather will be handled by Heather Melendez (pictured above).

Noticias Tampa Hoy launches next Monday.
