Los Angeles journalist Margo Spann was killed in a hit-and-run crash as she walked across the street. “A vehicle was traveling eastbound on Venice Boulevard when it collided with a pedestrian crossing within the marked crosswalk at the intersection of Wilton Place,” the LAPD said in a statement. “The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid or identify themselves as required by California law.”

According to Spann’s personal website, she moved to L.A. in 2014 and had been working as an entertainment journalist and a music D.J. In 2018, she launched Cocoa Hollywood Media, a production company and consulting firm. She previously worked in television news as an assignment editor at WISN-TV (ABC) in her hometown of Milwaukee. She also had jobs at WVTV (CW) in Milwaukee; WSAW-TV (CBS) in Wausau, Wisconsin; and WISC-TV (CBS) in Madison as the Rock County reporter.

Spann served on the board of directors for the National Association of Black Journalists Los Angeles Chapter.
