Back in November of 2019, FTVLive told you that Scripps announced that they would be bringing a newscast to WSFL in South Florida.

Scripps went so far as to hire a News Director for the station in January of last year.

But then nothing happened.

It seems that the COVID pandemic put the news expansion on hold and people that applied for jobs at WSFLA were sent emails like this one:

Well, it now appears that Scripps is going ahead with adding news, but there has been a change in plans.

Sources tell FTVLive that WPLG will now produce a newscast for WSFL.

The odd thing is Scripps owns WPTV in West Palm Beach, but they don’t own WPLG.

So, you would have thought that maybe Scripps would have used WPTV to produce the newscast, instead of farming it out to WPLG. That way all the money earned off the newscast could have stayed with Scripps, instead of sharing with WPLG.

The problem might be that WPTV already producers a newscast for WFLX, the Fox station in West Palm. There might not be the studio space or a control room that could be used for WSFL newscast.

The bigger question, what happens to Nicole Wolfe, who was hired as News Director at WSFL?

Wolfe was hired over a year ago to help the station start up a news operation and now Scripps is handing it off to WPLG to produce it.
