Former News Director Settles Lawsuit Against Tegna

Back just over a year ago, FTVLive told you that former WOI (Des Monies) News Director April Samp was suing the station and its owner Tegna for what she claimed was gender discrimination after being fired.

In an October 2020 court filing responding to the complaint, Tegna claimed it had legitimate business reasons, other than age and gender, for pushing out Samp and the other women let go from the station.

"Even if (Samp) is able to prove that a prohibited factor motivated any adverse employment action by any Defendant, Defendants would have taken the same action even absent such motivation," the response said.

Well, before the case headed to trial both sides agreed to a settlement to which the terms were not disclosed.

It is likely that Tegna agreed to pay Samp a payment for this case to be dropped.

In the meantime, while Samp was waiting for her lawsuit to wind its way through the system, she was arrested for DUI. Looking at her booking photo, she didn’t seem to be very broken up over getting busted.

This appears to be the second time she was arrested on the same charge.
