Station Staffers Question Recent Reporter Hire at Texas Station

A number of news staff at Nexstar’s KTSM (El Paso) are wondering about a recent Reporter hire by the station.

The station recently hired former America’s Voice anchor Christina Aguayo.

Wikipedia describes America’s Voice as “a now-defunct cable TV network designed to rapidly mobilize conservative followers for grassroots lobbying.”

Aguayo made waves for having her account suspended by Twitter for violating their terms of service. The account was suspended after she posted news about COVID, which Twitter said violated their policy.

Aguayo recently landed an “exclusive” interview with controversial Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

In her package, she says that Paxton “was gracious enough to give us an exclusive one on one interview.” He’s the Texas AG, calling him “gracious” for talking to the media, seems a bit odd, when it should be his job to answer Journalists’ questions.

Also, in her package, Aguayo says, “Even if it sounds easy being the Attorney General of Texas, this FAMILY MAN…..”

According to the Dallas News, Paxton is under investigation after “Four former high ranking agency officials are accusing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton of swapping political favors for a donor’s help with a home remodel and a job for his alleged ‘mistress.’”

Not sure how many “family” men have an “alleged ‘mistress.”

Interestingly, while Aguayo used the “family man” line in her on-air package, she appears to have edited out of the story posted online at the KTSM website.

Aguayo’s interview never seemed to hit on the fact that Paxton is being investigated by the FBI and the state bar.

The story ran 5-minutes plus and as one station employee said, it was, “the equivalent of a 5min campaign ad.”

Here is the package she did and you can decide if you think it’s objective:
