Today is the day that Sinclair Broadcasting will launch its new weekday morning news show The National Desk.

Don’t look for the show to be on your regular Sinclair station, this show is being broadcast by Sinclair’s CW and MyNetwork affiliates. In other words, they are launching the show on low rated stations that often feature old syndicated shows.

Sinclair will also stream the newscast on its Stirr platform.

My guess is that the show will have low ratings, but for Sinclair it is much cheaper to put on a newscast, then pay for the rights to re-air “Married With Children” in nearly 70 markets.

“Stories that will be national news tomorrow are emanating from smaller local communities today,” said Sinclair’s VP of News, Scott Livingston. I’m not even sure what that means.

What Sinclair is also saying is that The National Desk will be commentary free. Sinclair is known for pushing their corporate conservative leanings onto their affiliates but says they won’t do commentaries on their morning show.

Of course, this still does not mean that they won’t offer up slanted news stories for the likes on James Rosen and Kristine Frazao.

The show kicks off this morning, and we’re betting you won’t hear much about the show in the future.
