Gone at Tegna
/For the past three years, Seth Feldman worked as the morning newscasts consultant at Tegna.
He was the guy that thought bringing on on comics to anchor the news was a good idea. He once launched a plan at Tegna’s WUSA (DC) to bring in a live audience to fill the studio during the newscasts.
The station went so far to hire a person to book the live audience.
This wasn’t a talk show this was a newscast that we are talking about. The plan fizzled out after just a couple of weeks.
Feldman took to social media to say that his run is over at Tegna and he is moving on as the Head of Content for a national news start-up.
As Feldman leaves, it didn’t take long for WUSA to tell the staff that they were pulling the comic from the morning newscast. The station says that Reese Waters will no longer be anchoring the morning newscast starting next week.
The fact that this change happens as Feldman is leaving the company is not surprising.
A Tegna insider sent FTVLive this email and thinks other Tegna stations are looking at changes. “The consultant Tegna put on staff just left the company after 3 years of ruining morning shows across the country. His boss at Tegna corporate apparently is keeping her job and now she can blame him for the comedians and everything else they did together that failed. I think you'll see more morning show changes in Tegna's other big markets where they're experimenting with crazy formats. I'd be worried if I worked in places like Atlanta, Houston and Cleveland.” the insider said.
Time will tell, but we can only hope that the Tegna stations will get back to doing Journalism and not have comics doing the news.
