"Below Our Standards"
/On Friday, FTVLive told you how KSTP (Minneapolis) Reporter Jay Kolls used his story to point at Antifa for the the riot at the US Capitol.
FTVLive wrote, Kolls story cites Minneapolis-based security consultant Michael Rozin, who commented that there "were some rioters inside the U.S. Capitol who used symbols and had tattoos which seem to be aligned with the ANTIFA movement."
Kolls then repeated this assertion on the broadcast.
Well, now it appears that KSTP management is trying to get the toothpaste back in the tube in regards to Kolls story.
KSTP broadcast this statement on their newscasts in reaction to Kolls one-sided story:
“On Wednesday night, we broadcast a report focusing on the initial questions of security measures at the US Capitol. At the end of that story from reporter Jay Koll, he quoted Michael Rozin, a recognized security expert, who stated that it was “highly likely” that people who aligned with the Antifa group may have been part of instigating the violence at the Capitol. After further review, Mr. Rozin acknowledges his claim was speculative.
For our part, we should not have reported that assertion without more context analyzing the claim.
This was not in keeping with the editorial standards of 5 Eyewitness News, and we will do better going forward.”
The bigger question besides having a Reporter with an agenda on their staff is how did this report make air?
Are there no checks and balances at KSTP?
I admit I have not been working inside a newsroom in quite awhile, but when I did if a Reporter wrote a story, the script had to get approval before it was tracked. The script was also looked at by a Producer and an Executive Producer in the computer.
The Anchor that read the lead-in to the story was also told to read the script.
In other words, at least 3 people besides the Reporter saw the script before it went on air. It’s called checks and balances.
Clearly, this is not the operating procedure at KSTP.
The station did not say if any action was taken against KoLLS?
