Meredith Boss Said This a Month Ago

In an earnings call on August 13th, Meredith CEO Tom Harty said this to those on the call:

“While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to materially impact our business, we saw continued strong consumer engagement along with improvement in advertising revenue performance during the course of the fourth quarter, particularly for our digital and broadcast properties,” Harty said on the earnings call.

In other words, it sounded like the worse was behind them and things, including ad dollars were trending up.

A month after saying that, Meredith put almost 200 of their people out of work, laying off people at their stations from coast to coast.

Just hours after firing all these people, Meredith started posting job openings and Meredith executives were asking people on social media, who wants to come work for them?

Meredith’s WGCL in Atlanta posted a job opening for a Reporter.

Why wasn’t this job offered to say the Reporter the company fired on the road in Greenville?

Scores of Meredith employees have reached out to FTVLive to talk about how the company bungled the layoffs and how they were handled.

When you have to layoff people it is never a good thing, but it seems that Meredith could have done a much better job in how they executed it.
