Let's Scare the Viewers
/Yesterday, FTVLive told you how WTVJ (Miami) Chief Meteorologist John Morales was the lead on the newscast, to talk about a weather disturbance in the tropics that is MILES away from the United States.
Morales did not believe that he should have been the lead and told viewers not to worry and that he was just “following orders” from station management to lead the newscast.
But, WTVJ is not the only station trying to scare viewers.
Hearst owned WPBF (West Plam Beach) led their 5 PM newscast with the weather in the tropics as well. the disturbances in the Atlantic pose no threats to the United States as of yet and it is a good chance that none of the current disturbances will make it this far.
Florida just passed New York State in COVID-19 infections, nearly 10,000 people have died of the rona in the Sunshine State, and here is a local TV station playing on the nerves of an already stressed out viewer.
Talk about the weather in the tropics, of course. Leading the newscast with it, this so early in the game is nothing more than a ploy to scare viewers and try and goose the ratings.
With all that is going on this year, I think we should put the crying wolf on the back shelf until a storm moves a bit closer and becomes a threat.
The viewers really don’t need this crap right now.
