Gray Puts Their Money Where There Mouth Is
/Gray Television corporate bosses sent out an email to the staff and along with words, they also showed some action by donating $50,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund to help advance its necessary efforts toward a more just society for all.
Gray started out the mail by saying, “As a journalism-based company, we typically don’t take “sides” regarding current events. Rather, we believe that companies primarily engaged in covering the news should refrain from commenting on the news.”
But, then added, “ …the protests over the past week have shined a light on a matter of basic human rights that transcends the “news” and has no “sides.” To that end, your Executive Chairman, President, EVPs, and SVPs join together in this message on recent events.”
FTVLive has called out Gray Television and a number of their stations for some of their actions. But, we also must give them credit for not only this but for how they have handled these tough financial times during the pandemic.
While other media companies like Meredith, Tegna, and others have cut their employees’ pay, Gray did not do that. Gray put their employees before their bottom line and for that, they should be commended.
It’s easy for media companies to back their people when times are good, but when things get tough, that’s when you see a company’s true colors. Gray has shown, in tough times, that their people matter.
This latest memo shows that they also realize changes to racially equality is still a goal not reached.
Here is the memo sent to the staff and obtained by FTVLive:
