About That Black Box on Your Instagram

If you logged onto Instagram yesterday it is more than likely you saw a lot of black boxes with no information and no comment.

The idea behind it was for those in the music industry were asking their colleagues in the music and entertainment space to “pause” work on Tuesday, June 2, in solidarity with the Black community.

But, it wasn’t long for Journalists to hop on their Instagram and post a black box as well. In other words in a time that Journalists are needed to tell people what is happening and report, they decided to go silent on IG.

WFTS (Tampa) Anchor Jasmine Styles hit the proverbial nail on the head:

As for the music industry, Rappr LilNasX also had some questions about “blackout Tuesday”:

Here is an interesting story as to how #BlackOutTuesday went wrong.

As for Journalists, now is not the time to go silent, now is the time to report the news, tell people what is happening and shine a bright light on what is going right and what is going wrong.

At a time when viewers need you most, you decided to go silent.

Your heart might have been in the right spot, or maybe you just did it because you think you’re a celebrity as well, but you neglected you job when people really need you right now.

Now is not the time to be silent.

Last but not least, did anyone else find it ironic that a team that calls themselves the Redskins, was taking a stand against racism?

Just asking…
