FTVLive has been looking at TV markets to see just how they are doing when it comes to diversity with their on-air staff.

Many of the station owners have released statements recently about racial equality and justice, but we want to see if they practice what they preach?

Let’s take a look at the Salt Lake City market.

Looking at the team page for Sinclair’s KUTV, It looks like all the guys are white, most of the women are blonde and there is not a single black person to be found.

Headling over to KSL and it is almost a carbon copy of KUTV. I have been to Salt Lake City, I have seen black people in there, so I know in fact that African Americans live there.

When we go to Scripps KSTU and their people page, you will see that it is blank. Maybe the station pulled all the pictures, knowing that FTVLive was going to be stopping by.

The page is just a white blank, very much like their on-air staff.

Over at Nexstar’s KTVX you will find see a black person! So out of 4 stations in the market, we find only one station that has gone out and made hired an African American.

While these companies are now talking about racial equity, it appears their actions have not quite caught up.

I was at NABJ last year in Maimi. Thousands of Black Journalists were there as well. I met hundreds of young Journalists with just a station or two under their belt. I met people that have been in the business for years.

Black Journalists are out there, it’s your job to find and hire them.

Stop talking and start doing!
