The White Out in Denver

Yesterday, FTVLive told you how Tegna’s KUSA in Denver seems to have a bit of a problem with diversity at their station.

A look at the news team at the station and you might think that you are looking at the membership of a southern country club.

Look at the managers of KUSA and you will see a lot of white faces staring back at you.

But this lack of diversity does not seem to be a problem with just KUSA.

Take a look at the bio page for Nexstar’s KDVR/KWGN and see if you can find a black face?

Cross the street to KMGH and look at their talent page and you won’t find many African Americans there either.

Over at KCNC, their talent page shows a few black members of their team, but you can believe that they can do better.

All these organizations are talking a great game name about racial diversity, but seem to be lacking in their actions.

Sorry, but talk is cheap, it is time for a change and that needs to start happening in TV stations. It has to happen in management which will trickle down into the newsroom. We need more people of color in the GM’s office and in the News Director’s chair.

It’s easy to talk about change, it’s another thing to do it.
