Management Decision

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that Fox owned KCPQ in Seattle was the only local station that did not take the George Floyd funeral live as it happened this week.

FTVLive heard from a number of station insiders that said they were not at all happy with that decision.

One insider said to FTVLive, “Several people including managers said we should take it live. Erik Breon (KCPQ News Director) said, “we’ve already cut in a lot for this story so it’s not worth losing the ad time.””

Now, if this is what the News Director said, I’m really worried about the station. When a News Director puts ad time over news, that is a real issue. Also, this funeral would have pre-empted some daytime programming, it’s not like the revenue loss would have been very much.

The sales managers are the ones that fight for ads to air, the News Director fights for news and the General Manager makes the decision. That’s how the process should work.

I would bet big money that if Erica Hill was still the News Director at KCPQ, George Floyd’s funeral would have aired on the station.

Just saying….
