Longtime Sacramento General Manager Elliott Troshinsky says that he is going to retire at the end of next month.

Troshinsky has been the GM of KCRA since 2000 and was the boss at KRBK (now KMAX) in Sacto before that.

“I’m truly blessed to have had a long career in an industry that I love and am grateful that it culminated with Hearst Television, the ‘best in class’ in the broadcast industry,” Troshinsky said.

Although he didn’t say it, Troshinsky’s most rewarding moment had come when he hired Scott Jones as News Director (kidding).

Yes, the same guy that now runs FTVLive, once worked for Troshinsky and he was one of the best bosses I have ever had.

Elliott came up through sales and so he never acted if he knew everything about TV news and he let me lead the news department under his guidance. It was great to have a GM that you could rely on and know that he had your back.

With Troshinsky and I, the station saw the news numbers reach ratings that the station had never reached before. That happened because we had a dedicated hard-working staff and a GM that let the news department do news without micromanaging.

I think Elliott Troshinsky’s success in being a GM is the fact that he hired the right people for the job and then let them do their job.

How many GM’s are like that nowadays? So many feel they have to have their hand in everything and think they know it all.

Elliott Troshinsky was not that guy, he was a pleasure to work with and it is likely the reason he was so successful.

He is retiring, he deserves it, but the industry is losing one of the good guys and that part is sad.

Congrats Elliott!

You truly are one of the good ones in this crazy business.
