KABC almost covered a plane crash as it happened and did not even realize it.

The LA station was doing a live shot of the Air Force Thunderbirds flying over Southern California. The station was going live from their chopper when there was an incident that almost caused a crash.

The KABC crew thought the incident was part of the show and did not realize what happened.

It Involved the three planes colored in the picture above. The yellow plane dips just a bit and that causes the blue plane’s pilot to pull out slightly, coming very close to the wingtip of the red plane.

The pilot in the red plane maneuvers out of position to avoid the planes from colliding and then quickly gets back into formation.

The KABC crew thought it was all part of the show.
