Pandemic Helps CNN Get Viewers Back

The COVID-19 Pandemic has brought some good news to struggling CNN.

In April, the network has seen it’s total day viewership increase 150% and primetime viewership jump 154%.

The pandemic has been a ratings boom to both cable, network and local news.

CNN is still in last place in primetime, behind both Fox News and MSNBC. But, CNN has moved into 2nd place in total day, behind Fox News.

Here is the ratings breakdown with the demos according to Neilsen:

TOTAL DAY

FNC: 2,237,000 total viewers – up 66% (448,000 in 25-54 – up 84%)
CNN: 1,360,000 total viewers – up 150% (395,000 in 25-54 – up 180%)
MSNBC: 1,284,000 total viewers – up 40% (216,000 in 25-54 – up 54%)

PRIMETIME: 8-11PM/ET

FNC: 3,681,000 total viewers – up 54% (671,000 in 25-54 – up 72%)
CNN: 1,948,000 total viewers – up 154% (580,000 in 25-54 – up 193%)
MSNBC: 2,038,000 total viewers – up 23% (336,000 in 25-54 – up 32%)
