The Inbox...a Response to Tegna

Today on our segment called The Inbox, a TV newie wants to comment on a quote that Tegna CEO Dave Lougee made.

Lougee said this in a Tegna press release:

“Like every other company, TEGNA is operating in uncharted waters due to COVID-19 as we focus on ensuring the health and safety of our employees while continuing to create and preserve value. High-quality local news has never been more important, and we are fortunate to have significant contractual subscription revenues and a strong balance sheet with minimal near-term debt maturities. We are working through the current challenges raised by COVID-19 and are very confident that our long-term growth drivers remain intact.”

A TV newsie emailed FTVLive with this response to Lougee’s quote:

Dear Dave,

Are you kidding me with this quote? “High-quality local news has never been more important” You’ve gutted our station of actual journalists, hired comedians clowns, managers with no local news experience and “daily mail” models. Now you suddenly realize high-quality local news matters??? Even though you will get a huge payout when this company you trashed gets sold, I’m embarrassed for you.
