Station Will NOT Report The News on Their Own Employee That Tested Positive

An employee at Hubbard’s KOB (Albuquerque) has tested positive for COVID-19.

Right now in Bernalillo County where Albuquerque is located, only 43 people have tested for the coronavirus. In other words, a positive test in that area is still news.

But, it appears that KOB General Manager Michelle Donaldson has decided that the station will NOT report that one of their employees has the virus, despite the fact that KOB has reported on other companies that have had employees test positive.

Donaldson writes in a memo to the staff, “As the virus moves through our community, I believe over time this will be a non-issue.”

I think anytime when a station censors the news about themselves it is an issue. If you report on other companies, you should report on your own. You don’t have to name the employee, but you should report the news.
