Columbus Weatherman Trying to Stay Out of Prison
/Former WBNS Meteorologist and convicted sex offender Mike Davis is making an effort to stay out of prison.
In a new court filing, Davis’ argues that Davis should avoid prison in the child pornography case against him.
Davis entered guilty pleas back in January on three counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor and one count of possession of sexually oriented material involving a minor.
He is set to be sentenced next week, although it is likely that the sentencing will change due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Davis’ attorney, Terry Sherman, argues in the motion filed Friday that Davis should not be sent to prison for his conduct.
“There has not been one indication that Mr. Davis had any hand in the creation of these images nor any intent to reproduce or publish these materials,” Sherman wrote. “There is absolutely no evidence Mr. Davis ever had any untoward or inappropriate behaviors directed toward minors.”
Cops found 15,912 images of child pornography traced to Davis’ email address. Davis was fired from WBNS, where he had worked for more than 30 years, after his arrest in September.
Sherman said Davis does not intend to minimize the seriousness of his behavior and has come to realize that the “images depict real persons” and “the sole act of viewing these images actually perpetuates a continued cycle of victimization of children.”
“Mr. Davis has ruined a reputation which took him a lifetime to build, and foreclosed any future ability to obtain employment in the media or in related professional arenas. Now, he is too ashamed to even show his face in public.”
Davis faces a possible sentence is 25 1/2 years.
