Tampa Photographer: My Words Were Taken Out of Context
/Yesterday, FTVLive showed you how viewers were very upset after a Photographer from Nexstar’s WFLA in Tampa who was covering the Florida Highway Patrol escorting the body of a fallen officer across the state.
The Photog was covering the story from the station’s chopper and at one point he told the pilot, “We’re going to head back to Tampa….We can go back…It was a waste of my day.”
This happened on the station’s live stream and needless to say, a number of viewers were upset after hearing the Photog’s comments.
The WFLA Photographer contacted FTVLive and said that his comments were taken “out of context.”
“What people heard was me talking to the pilot who is a retired New Orleans Police Officer about the disappointment over missing the second half of the procession. We had to stop & get fuel & try to catch back up. We never did. I was angry that we didn’t get to fully cover the procession to show our respect for a fallen hero,” the Photographer said in an email to FTVLive, adding, “I’ve been covering news for 30 years and I have a great relationship and respect for ALL Law Enforcement including FHP”.
The Photog asked FTVLive not to use his name and says that he has received threats.
FTVLive is honoring that request and we have not named him at any point in our coverage of this story.
